ACACIA is the title of this year’s annual performance by SYNERGY DANCE THEATRE and the Young Choreographer Project 2017. How much can a group of dancers aged 10 to 40 achieve after years of learning? This is where the title of ACACIA becomes meaningful. For your information, the acacia is a type of tree, and I use the acacia tree as a symbol of dance education. You always need to start from the roots, and through time you will achieve the goal of dancing.
Artistic Director Christopher Liew has founded SDT for 12 years and produce many dance pieces through out the years. This will be the first time for SDT to perform at Black Box Kota Kinabalu which is new to the city! This is an experimental theatre and for sure it will create lots of surprise for you.
What is the goal of dancing? You need to find out for yourself.

Dance Delight 2015 ticket is selling fast

Dance Delight 2015 is here! This time we have the theme “The Scenes from the movies”. You will see lots of dance choreograph base on the movie e.g.. “night At The Museum” by Synergy Dance Theatre, “Step Up all in” by Re-Up Crew and New Jazz Student, Despicable me” by the Ballet students etc. For sure it will be lots of fun at that two performances. Ticket is selling fast and if you haven’t get your ticket yet, do grab it fast.

Everyone is back 回归正常

The beauty of Sundaland


Finally the examination finished and dancers come back to practice as usual.
For this two months, the dancers worked on “The beauty of Sundaland” while I were busy combining my idea from the Trusmadi with the dance piece too. The land of Borneo really occupied with so many great treasure which not many know and appreciate about it.
I love to travel. “The Legend of Mount Kinabalu” give me a brand new idea about “travelling”. To know the city that i have stay for so long is really a great experience for me as a dance artist too. I bought a book recently and really feel thankful to the author who collect and organize so many info about the incident. At last Friday, I share some thing about the war with my dancer. The total number of death of the WWII may occupied the whole Luyang area(Actually I doubt if Luyang areais big enough…)
Human has leave so many undesirable act to this world. However we are not suppose to just memorize the number and the date only. The story which tell us how to treat this world is the most precious thing of all.
Is November now, which mean is closer to 23rd April 2010.
I am looking forward for the “The Legend of Mount Kinabalu” prduction.
考试结束了,舞者也按正常规律回来舞团排练。
这两个月都在整理“笋达大地之美”,开始结合在Trusmadi所看见的大地在作品当中,也频频的回味这片大地的浩瀚与多元但不缺的细致。婆罗洲有着多少的宝藏,我相信很多人都没有醒觉。
我是个爱旅行的人,“神山的传说”的“旅行”方式让我体会到了不同的人文之旅。从前都没有这么强烈的体验,也难怪我总觉得这次的作品给的和以往都不同。最近买到了一本书《World War II》,感恩作者为这件事迹留下了相当细致的记录,并且图文并茂。星期五排练时和舞者分享有关这件事的死亡人数有多时,我相信无论我自己如何形容都是没办法传达的。是的,这个路阳区横尸遍野(我还怀疑路阳区似乎还太小)。
人类的历史上曾经留下许许多多这样的污点。是的,我们不该只是记得那些日期及号码,而忘却了真正要醒悟的是事情给我们的冲击及教诲。
十一月的到来,离演出的四月二十三日益近。
我满怀期待。

Something about dance有关舞蹈



It has been 5 years teached in Good Shepherd Dance Troupe as a dance instructor. I love the 3rd photo the most. The primary six students recently finished with their UPSR examination and come back to practice in the dance troupe. However, they miss to learn some of the movement during their examination period and the other dancers who are from primary 3 to 5 tried to teached them what they have missed. Every dance troupe has their own “energy flow”among the dancer. If they build up the energy properly, it will become the spirit of the team too.
善牧舞蹈团迈入第5个年头,舞蹈团除了曾经有达到108人数之外,我最喜欢第3张的照片。孩子忙着UPSR的小学大考,终于忙完回来舞团练习。之前的空窗让他们没学到一些技巧。照片中是三到五年级的学生教他们这些动作,虽然只是简单的前滚毛,但意义深重。每一个舞团都有他的气质存在,培养起来后就是一份精神。

“篱下”最近的感触:
原本就是这样,所以才理直。不是拿着课本写着白板才是老师。很多人看不见,舞蹈是一门教育,而且深的很。舞蹈老师是在做什么?教孩子跳舞、开发孩子的肢体、活动精骨?所以只要和跳舞相关的动作有关就是了?抱歉,我只能告诉你,我们舞蹈老师现在所教的远远超过薪水的水平。

其实说穿了,很平淡。

孩子一来,先让他知道排练场的规矩,包括仪容、礼貌、禁忌等。经过了介绍,你必须在往后的日子都在督促这件事,一直到他离开,因为他们还在成长,总是会不断地尝试犯错。记得:一直督促到他离开为止。接着,暖身的教学,他让他们懂得重要性及正确性,并且开发身体到更好的程度。我们都在训练孩子变得越来越好,不是么?然后,排练。学习不同的舞蹈动作,没有跳过得就要花时间开发,听不懂的就要讲、讲不听的就要骂、骂不动的就要耍手段。这些看似小人的动作,都旨在一件很简单的目的:让孩子用不同的方式及情况之下变得更好,以应付舞台演出这件事。如果你觉得舞台演出是一件上舞台上跳个舞就好得话,那你想的太简单。举例:走路。从踏出第一步开始走,一走走了十几年。试试看,嘴巴一边说左右然后脚配合嘴巴的指令,然后渐渐复杂化。舞台演出只是在大家众目睽睽的情况下,将每一个预定的动作完美的呈现。如果简单来说,就是专心的在那段时间完美的呈现每一个所学的动作。

完美,并不是一件简单的事,终其一生都很难追求到。但是,这种心态在无形及间接中让人变得更好。

上到舞台之前,学习舞台的方位及记号,以供队形的妥善呈现。走位,是让舞者熟悉环境,也是让编舞看看舞台空间的调度是否恰当或有所更改。舞者的能力将会影响舞台的质感,当然也包括了舞蹈名称及简介、舞蹈编排、灯光设计、音乐其他等元素来构成观众对舞码的认识及感触。单对舞者而言,舞者是否能够用技巧、台风等压得住场,这将会影响舞蹈的编排及调度。
等到音乐响起,出场演出,加入一切顺利的话,那就一切安好。然而,舞台上是个什么都会发生的神奇地方。舞者怯场而忘了位子、动作,抑或道具不小心掉了,更甚者道具被破坏或临时不见了,这些突发事件还不包括灯光设计的临场技术问题、道具组的临场位置放置错误等。小事则大家紧张就好,大事则受伤入院。我们常说,舞者的舞台经验,是用时间累计及实践换来的。错误往往变成了最佳的教材,让孩子在不同的场合用自己、别人的错误来提升自己的知识,为自己准备的更充实。

团体生活,就会有团体的压力。思想的差异造成的落差影响到人际,这些在我的教室是必须公私分明。没有任何一件事情是完全的公平,只有趋向公平的想法。带着孩子如何在行政上处理事情,教导孩子要开发自己的脑袋来应付外面的千种人,这些和未来的社会形态相比之下是不足,但何尝不是一个准备?

人,为什么不能只有理性?

只有理性,那还称不上是一个“人”。

舞蹈艺术的涵养除了理性的了解各种技巧、剧场、教室的规矩外,还有透过感官来体会身边的事情。舞蹈排练成了媒介,让孩子懂得更多。不是所有东西都有解释,就像陶渊明所说的:“采菊东篱下,悠然见南山。”其中的情愫就是一件虚无缥缈的情况所在。文字是能够形容,但是用文字、语言不能述说的事,我们用了舞蹈。是的,这不是课本的事,是另外一种感性的开发。有时我在想,我们都说东方的孩子都比较死板,现在因科技资讯的开放,看起来是比较不会如此。然而,还是会看见孩子在成长的过程中比较找不到自己到底想要什么。对我来说,或许舞蹈是一门学问,让人一直徘徊流荡在理性感性之中,这想起来就是一件幸福的事。

每一支舞码只有一次的机会演到最好,因为第二次的表演又是截然不同的环境、观众及情况。所以,舞蹈的每一位都必须很努力,为那当下的短短几分钟完美的呈现付诸于努力。所以,请别再说舞蹈只是动作,和主体、音乐、服装没什么大关系。

曾经说过,舞蹈是诗,你没办法和连文字都不会写的人谈诗。除非他开始学写字…..
